5 Factors Decide The Price & Quality Of Plywood

Same Thickness, same size. You may always have a question: why the price are so much higher/cheaper than others? Today we going to study the reasons for price difference:

Tree Material Of Plywood

Material is always a big topic. Which kind of tree seed the board used is affect the quality and the price a lot. Examples using poplar and eucalyptus – The 100% eucalyptus plywood gets $1-1.8 expensive than 100% poplar plywood, each piece (4’*8′).

Eucalyptus:

white eucalyptus, evergreen tree, tall and straight trunk, thick wood structure, straight or inclined staggered texture, easy to dry and process, and good nailing, paint, gluing, and other properties;

Red willow eucalyptus, the wood structure, and texture are also like white eucalyptus, the diameter cut pattern is beautiful, but it is difficult to dry and process. The red willow eucalyptus warps and cracks slightly during drying. Eucalyptus wood is hard, brown eyes, long fibers, large elasticity, and easy to deform.

Poplar:

A fast-growing and high-yielding tree species. It has the characteristics of wide adaptability, a long annual growth period, and fast production speed. It is widely planted in the south and north of China and has rich popular resources. Due to the loose structure of the poplar fiber and the relatively poor quality of the material, the scope of application is relatively limited. At present, it is mainly used as the core board or floor of solid wood composite flooring, short-cycle industrial raw materials, or road and river greening tree species.

The furniture used plywood mostly mix with Eucalyptus and Poplar to make sure the quality and price are suitable.

ONE MORE THING is same material also have different level.

The PLY Layers

If the total thickness of the plywood is fixed, how many plywood layers are better? We believe that the more layers of plywood, the better it improves the anisotropy of the wood.

However, more layers also mean that more glue is used, and more environmentally friendly glue is required to meet the requirements. In addition, the more layers, the smaller the thickness of the veneer. This affects the type of wood, and the planing and rotary cutting The process puts forward higher requirements; at the same time, the quality variation factors of the veneer with small thickness will be more.

Therefore, plywood with many layers requires higher technology and materials, and the quality and price will be correspondingly higher.

Adhesive Types

The quality of the adhesive used in plywood varies with price.

For example, with the same raw materials, the cost of using MDI adhesives has increased by 240% compared to ordinary glue. MDI is a general term for diphenylmethane diisocyanate, a mixture containing a certain proportion of pure MDI and polyphenyl polymethylene polyisocyanate, and a modified product of pure MDI and polymeric MDI. MDI glue, namely MDI ecological adhesive, refers to a kind of MDI downstream products, which is used to make various boards.

Also, Phenolic resin glue is more expensive than urea resin glue, but phenolic glue has better moisture resistance.

Hot Press Times

One hot press plywood produce by hot press one times. On the basis of the primary hot-pressed plywood, the secondary hot-pressed plywood is subjected to three processes of repairing, hot pressing and sanding. Three hot presses and four hot presses, and so on.

The surface flatness of four hot press> three hot press> secondary hot press, of course, the cost is the same.

Plywood usually used for furniture is hot-pressed more than three times.

Surface Grade

different veneers have different prices. And the class grade of veneer also has different prices.

Use two-letter to class the surface and bottom. We there have A / A, A / B, B / B, B / C, C / C, and so on.

Class A > Class B > Class C

In the end, does the best quality and most expensive price mean the best for you? NO. The suitable one is the best.
